HELLO From HAPPY HORTON!!
Thanks for visiting my web page! My name is Mrs. Sharlene Horton, and I am a 7th and 8th-grade language arts teacher at Cochrane Collegiate Academy. This is my second year at Cochrane. Before this school, I spent 13 years at Northeast Middle School. I have been teaching English/Language Arts for a total of 27 years! I graduated from North Carolina Central University (EAGLE Pride) in Durham, NC. I've taught in North Carolina, as well as in Maryland, Georgia, and Indiana. My husband's name is Jemal, and he is a sports writer. We met in college at NCCU and have been married over 24 years! We have one child who is almost 18 years old - a wonderful son named Saadiq.
You may contact me at (980) 343-6920 or via my personal e-mail at [email protected].
As a teacher, I try to always remember the power I hold and the message from one of my favorite quotes from Dr.Haim Ginott:
“I've come to the frightening conclusion that I am the decisive element in the
classroom. It's my daily mood that makes the weather. As a teacher, I possess a
tremendous power to make a child's life miserable or joyous. I can be a tool of torture
or an instrument of inspiration. I can humiliate or humor, hurt or heal. In all situations,
it is my response that decides whether a crisis will be escalated or de-escalated
and a child humanized or de-humanized.”
